This database driven game presents a pair of hands offering two cards with sometimes very similar and sometimes very different images. It constantly asks and insists the player to choose one over the other. This endless game aims to record and track a player’s ‘tastes’ in “choosing” of visual hierarchy. Driven by a complex database that stores each image’s various qualities measured by the subjective taste of the creators, EitherOr plays with the viewer’s desire to ‘figure out’ the system while the system itself is simply mirroing the player’s past choices. It was re-created as a tabletop interactive installation for the show “Call and Response” curated by Jennifer Junkermeier. Unique sets of images were created for and responding to the location of the show, Newark, NJ. Custom software, custom electronics, a used desk and a chair. In collaboration with Steven Pedersen.
