The Conference Room (wip)

2026
Handwoven paper tapestry, automatic curtain system

The Conference Room (Warp & Weft VI) presents a room divided by a large curtain draped from ceiling to floor and wall to wall. This curtain is composed of a thick, dense tapestry, made from weaving together the shredded paper printouts of federal court opinions and state codes concerning abortion and gun ownership. Viewers can freely open or close the curtain. This ‘conference room’ will occasionally be ‘activated’ and used as the site of live panel discussions. Invited legal scholars will discuss the parallel arguments between gun ownership and abortion. Although the invited guest speakers would all agree on the right to abortion, the arguments and theories underpinning this agreement will come from differing standpoints that are, at times, philosophically at odds with each other. The curtains will be drawn open during the panel discussion, signifying the open session for a debate.
